History of RC
Lucknow
Regional Centre occupies a
central position in the delivery system of an Open
University. The IGNOU Act defines the “Regional Centre”
as a centre established or maintained by the University for
the purpose of coordinating and supervising the work of
study centres in any region and for performing such other
functions as may be confirmed by the Board of Management,
the highest policy making body of the University. Regional
Centre acts as a sub office of the University or its
resource centre in the respective region. Under the
Diversified Delivery System, the University has also
introduced the concept of Programme Specific Study Centres
for professional courses and Special Study Centres for
remote and rural areas, women, minorities etc. Besides
Study Centres under North Bihar Education Projects are
also established to give more focus on some specific
programmes including BDP with selected courses.. All this
has elevated the pivotal role of the Regional Centre as a
monitoring and co-ordinating agency. It is an effective link
between the different Schools and Divisions of the
University and Learners Support Centres, between IGNOU and
respective State Governments and between IGNOU and the
general public.
Lucknow Regional Centre was
